As per Mesa Airlines baggage policy, the airline allows passengers to carry 1 cabin bag and is already included with the flight ticket.

  • Size of the carry-on bag for Mesa Airlines American Eagle – 45 linear inches (22 x 14 x 9 in) or 115 centimeters (56 x 36 x 23 cm) including handles and wheels.

As per Mesa Airlines baggage policy, baggage allowance depends on the travel route. For instance, the airline allows 1 checked bag for free for international travel. For domestic travel, each checked bag is paid.

  • 2nd checked bag when booking online – 67 to 86 USD
  • 2nd checked bag during check-in – 78 to 97 USD
  • 2nd checked bag at the airport – 89 to 110 USD
  • 3rd and subsequent bags when booking online – 87 to 110 USD
  • 3rd and subsequent bags during check-in – 98 to 120 USD

Mesa Airlines Excess Baggage Policy

Mesa Airlines imposes an extra baggage fee for overweight/oversized luggage.

  • Checked bags weighing 41-50 pounds – 75 USD for each bag.
  • Checked bags weighing 51-100 pounds – 100 USD for each bag.
  • Oversized Fee (63-110 linear inches) – 75 USD for each bag.

Note – Bags heavier than 100 pounds or sizes that exceed 110 linear inches are not accepted by Mesa Airlines.

These include weaponry & shooting devices, certain sporting equipment, edged tools, pointed instruments, and martial and defense equipment. 

  • Weaponry and shooting devices –  Ammunition, guns, compressed air guns, firearms, pellet guns, realistic firearm replicas, and starter pistols.
  • Personal items – Lighters and Scissors-metal
  • Sporting equipment – Baseball bats, spear guns, bows and arrows, cricket bats, golf clubs, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks, pool cues and ski poles.
  • Edged tools – Axes, hatchets, cattle prods, crowbars, hammers, drills, and saws.
  • Pointed instruments – Screwdrivers, wrenches, box cutters, ice axes/ice picks, knives, meat cleavers, razor-type blades, utility knives and razor blades.
  • Martial or defensive equipment – Billy clubs, black jacks, night sticks, nunchakus, martial, arts/self defense items, stun guns/shocking devices, throwing stars, brass, knuckles, kubatons, mace/pepper spray and martial arts weapons.

Restricted items in carry-on and checked luggage

These items include flammable/ignition items, oxidizing substances, compressed gasses, radioactive materials, explosive materials, weapons and other harmful articles.

  • Flammable/Ignition items – Aerosol, cooking fuels, gasoline, gas torches, lighter fluid, strike anywhere matches, turpentine, paint thinner, and realistic replicas of incendiaries.
  • Oxidizing substances – Bleaching powder and peroxides.
  • Compressed gasses – Deeply refrigerated, flammable, non-flammable, poisonous, butane, oxygen, liquid nitrogen and aqualung cylinders.
  • Radioactive materials –  Acids, alkalis, mercury, wet cell batteries,  oven or drain cleaners and radioactive components.
  • Explosive materials – Flare guns, gun lighters, gun powder, explosive material, blasting caps, dynamite, fireworks, flares, hand grenades, plastic explosives, and realistic replicas of explosives.
  • Other harmful articles –  Briefcases with installed alarm devices, weed killers, and live virus materials.

How to purchase/add baggage with Mesa Airlines?

Eligible passengers of Mesa Airlines can purchase or add extra baggage through the following ways – 

  • At the time of booking – You can add baggage at the time of booking online
  • At the time of check-in – Passengers have the option to add or purchase baggage during online check-in.
  • At the airport – Passengers can add baggage at the check-in counter up to 60 minutes before scheduled departure.
