This coincides with the upcoming Thai New Year Songkran festival 2024 which enables citizens to travel home for the holiday.

Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit announced the decrease in fares, which will help reduce the airfares between 3.8% to 14% starting this Friday.

According to the Transport Ministry, locals can expect the airfares between Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Krabi, and Phuket to have been reduced to as low as 3,000 baht (80 USD) each way.

“The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) is in talks with six domestic airlines which aims to increase the flight frequency and lower the price amidst the onset of Songkran Water festival’’, said Transport Minister Suriya Juangruangreangkit.

Surya also informed that CAAT is also holding talks with domestic and other South Eastern carriers to address the issue of inflated flight costs, which is also affecting the potential tourist visits in the different cities of Thailand.

Thailand’s annual Songkran festival marks the start of the traditional Thai New Year starting April 12 to April 15 when locals engage in water fights and the famous S2O festival making it an excellent time for travelers to visit Thailand.
